Sentimental Me.

Following a very successful run at the famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Marti released a wonderful album of jazz classics on 14/04/08. This album went to number 1 in the iTunes Vocal Chart!  Grin

I love this album.  I play it in the car all the time - especially on the way to work - it cheers me up.
I've recently down-loaded Where or When and wish that was on the album too - it's a gorgeous song.

I agree, Ange that Where or When is a gorgeous song & would have been great on the album, as well as Lady With the Mandolin.
I think Marti's vocals on the album are brilliant-such control. Although there are only a few tracks on here that I knew before hearing Marti sing them, I really feel he has made these songs his own.
I love the way the album starts so gently & I remember the first time I heard the album, being impressed by the segue into 'A Child Is Born'. That really works well, I think.
Those high notes in 'You Don't Know What Love Is' are superb & I love the ending of that track. I really enjoy 'When The World Was Young'. 'Tell Me All About It' really makes me smile-I love the brass & strings on it, 'You Must Believe In Spring' is such a positive song & I've loved 'I'm Glad There Is You' from the very first time I heard Marti sing it on his Between the Covers tour. Who Can I Turn To took my breath away when I first heard Marti's version of it. This song is special for me as it was sung by Anthony Newley & my Mum had an autographed photo of him! Smiley
Two other things that I think are outstanding about this album are Jim's piano playing and Chris Dagley's drumming. As I'm not well up with jazz, I sometimes get a bit lost with the jazz style of piano, but Chris's drumming comes in & brings me right back into the rhythm of the songs. GREAT! Cool

Just noticed that Sentimental Me is currently at No. 48 in the Amazon.co.uk Scottish Folk Bestsellers chart (which is a chart of the bestselling Scottish artists rather than a Scottish Folk Music chart).  I haven't really been looking much but don't think that I have seen it in that chart recently.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/music/231262/ref=pd_ts_pg_2?ie=UTF8&p...

Just in case anyone isn't aware, you can now get MP3 downloads from Amazon.co.uk at 69p per track (cheaper than most).  They only seem to have Marti's most recent releases at the moment, though, i.e. the Sentimental Me album and the Take A Letter Miss Jones/Where Or When single.

That's great to know. Thanks, Debbie.

A lot of people probably know, but I just thought I'd mention that the SM album is now being sold with WOE merchandise. They're auographed. Smiley I was hoping they'd have Lady with the Mandoln on, but they haven't, they're the same as the original album.

I've just been listening to Where or When after not hearing it for some time & it really is breathtaking-from the musical arrangement to Marti's rich tones-WONDERFUL!
(Although that track isn't on Sentimental Me, I thought I'd tag this post on here rather than starting a new thread!)

I love 'Where or When', probably my favourite from the jazz shows.  I really wish it was on Sentimental Me.  I think I have it on a copied CD somewhere but I can't remember how I got it and what it will be on.  I haven't listened to that song or Sentimental Me for a while so will have to VERY soon - now you've reminded me of it Mary!!  Smiley

I don't know if this will help you find where your recording of Where or When is, Barbara, but I downloaded the Take a Letter Miss Jones  'single' from iTunes & Where or When is the 'B' side. (Forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know!  Smiley)
I know A & B sides don't really exist with downloads, but I'm sure you know what I mean!
Hope that helps to jog your memory!  Smiley
