Hi everyone,
I know everyone is wanting to see pics of the flowers and gifts etc so I thought I'd better get cracking uploading em..... Thought I'd just say a bit about each gift so everyone can get an idea what they looked like.....
Flowers The arrangement was created by Limeginger (Bromley florist) The letters J and H (made of oasis) were placed back to back on a stand. The J was covered in all brightly coloured flowers and a lovely green organza material covered in glitter.......
the H was covered with black tape and had darker coloured flowers and black material.
I had put everyones messages onto individual silver and gold gift tags and threaded them onto red ribbon and the florist tied to the arrangement. I'm sure Marti will take the time to read everyones good wishes when he has a spare few minutes over the days ahead. It's pretty hard to describe the arrangement in detail but I hope everyone can see how good they looked from the pics. The overall arrangement was about 2.5 foot tall and was quite heavy as it had been well watered to ensure the flowers stayed as fresh as possible and I was assured it would last in Marti's dressing room for the whole of the Bromley leg of the tour.
Cufflinks These were 9ct gold discs linked with chains not the modern style ones.
We thought it would be good for Marti to have something authentic from the Victorian era from which he was playing the part! Each pair was engraved with a J one on disc and H on another in classic script. They came in a classy satin-lined case.
Pocketwatch I ordered a lovely pocketwatch for Marti.
On the front was a 'celtic rose' design of intertwining gold and silver detailing. On the back I had it engraved with 'This is the Moment' This was in a lovely satin-lined case.
This was in the shape of a book which I had engraved with 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' It was about 5" tall and again was in a satin-lined case. I thought it would be a lovely momento of his time in the show.
As everyone had been so generous I had some extra cash so as I know Marti likes his chocolate I ordered him a box of Chocolate Truffles from Thorntons and had a good luck message spelled out on the chocs which said Good Luck Marti from us all
I also got a card which I thought was very apt (see pic)
and put everything into a silver gift bag which very kindly got taken with the flower arrangement over to Marti's dressing room in the theatre by the ladies from the florists.
Marti also received a Jekyll and Hyde cake from us all - as it was an 11th hour contribution It was a decent size as well so maybe something he will have shared with the cast and crew.
I know Marti loved and appreciated his gifts. After the show he came over and thanked those of us there for all his presents and I asked him what he thought to his flowers and he replied 'Lovely, thank you all so much' .....Oh and I do believe he is wearing the pocketwatch in a couple of scenes in the show, which I was thrilled about. I was trying to see if he was wearing the cufflinks but unfortunately couldn't tell.
I'd like to thank those of you who contributed - I think we did Marti proud - he's definately got some generous fans. I also like to thank Maz for helping me with the cufflinks and thanks to Helen H, Angie B and Barbara S for their fantastic ideas. Also, thanks to Lynn for getting all this out to you! I've had a wonderful weekend down in Bromley - the show is absolutely fantastic, loved every minute of it. Marti is awesome in this role, his voice is incredible, his acting is superb. I am so proud of what he has acheived - and I am so proud to be a Marti fan!!
Love Sue A xx
